Vegetable glycerin, also known as glycerol or glycerine, is a clear liquid typically made from soybean, coconut or palm oils. It is odorless and has a mild, sweet taste with a syrup-like consistency. Vegetable glycerin is particularly popular in the cosmetic industry but has several other uses as well. It may also provide health benefits, ranging from skin health to better hydration and a strengthened gut.
Studies show that applying glycerin-containing products protect your skin against irritants and microbes, as well as soothe inflamed or wounded skin. It also leads to better skin health by helping soothe skin irritation, protect against infection and promote wound healing.
Vegetable glycerin moisturizes and is known to prevent breakage, especially on hair that isn’t chemically treated. Since it helps draw moisture from the air onto your hair and is easily soluble in water, glycerin can serve as a great deep conditioner. Also, it improves overall scalp treatment, strengthen hair, target frizz/breakage, moisturize dry hair and more.
