Sucrose Stearate

Description

Sucrose stearate is a mixture of the sugar sucrose and a natural substance known as stearic acid. In nature, sucrose is found in most fruits and vegetables.

Sucrose stearate belongs to the popular group of sucrose esters, a group of natural emulsifiers where sugar (sucrose) is esterified with a fatty acid from plant oils (stearic acid). It is completely natural and since it belongs to the nonionic emulsifiers it could be blended with all other emulsifiers to improve the texture and stability and to modify the viscosity. It works as both emulsifier and emollient.

This emulsifier works both in a hot or cold process and creates light emulsions with a very low viscosity. The emulsions are suitable for a spray pump and you can create a broad range of attractive hair and body products with a very light skin feel.
It creates a light, smooth and silky emulsions with no soapiness or greasiness.

It works best for an oil range between 15-25%.
It is soluble in water when heated to 75 deg C.

You can add Sucrose stearate into the water phase, into the oil phase or in a one-pot process (blending oil and water phase from the very beginning).
